Rules and guidelines for the competition

Purpose of the Pitch

Think of original and creative Business and entrepreneur ideas that can address or tackle a social issue or issues.

Research

Do authentic and credible research in terms of implementing the ideas.

Taking Ownership

Do not use AI for any part of the competition.

Due Dates and Time of Presentation

The due date to submit your pitches is: Saturday 5 April 2025. Each team will get 7 to 10 minutes in total to do their presentation.

Number of People in a Team and Maximum Age

Every team can have up to 3 students. Single entry to the competition is also allowed. The maximum age for an entry to the competition is being 18 years old.

Announcing the Winners

We will meet on Zoom to announce the winners. The date for that is Wednesday 15 April 2025.

Types of Pitches

The topic of your pitch can focus on and highlight the importance of Business helping people in need, or making a difference for underprivileged backgrounds and communities. Some examples topics/ideas include -

Fateh Arif Karimli is a 16 year old young entrepreneur who was born in Texas, USA. Currently he is living in Baku, Azerbaijan. Fateh is aiming to study Business and Economics in college to enhance career opportunities globally to help people who are struggling to find stable jobs. 

The aim of the competition is to allow us to think and reflect on the significance of Business in people’s current lives and for their future generations. The idea of this is to also want to help and strive better so the underprivileged communities can benefit as being part of the society.

Our Judges

Aghabey Asadov

Aghabey Asadov

Mr. Aghabay Asadov is an experienced professional with a diverse background in Consulting, Banking, and Financial Advisory. He worked for two years at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) as a Management Consultant. Here he focused on mobility, energy and digital transformation projects. Prior to that, Mr. Aghabay worked at Pasha Bank as a Corporate Banker. He began as an analyst and progressed to Portfolio Manager and Team Leader. Mr Aghabay has managed corporate loans and client portfolios.


In addition, he has worked as a Financial Advisor to the CEO of Petkim, providing strategic financial guidance. Mr. Aghabay has also worked as a university lecturer, teaching Finance and Marketing. He holds a postgraduate degree in Finance and Investment from Aston Business School, UK and was a Fulbright Humphrey Fellow at Boston University in 2021/2022.

Dr. Dilshad Dayani

Dr. Dilshad Dayani

Dr. Dayani holds faculty and consultancy roles at Columbia University's Teachers College, The School of The New York Times, and Social Impact Ventures, while mentoring at Cambridge Research and Beijing Institute. Her Amazon best-selling book examines intrapersonal conflict, women's cultural narratives, and unconscious bias in achievement. With expertise spanning prestigious European and South Asian institutions, she delivers educational experiences in digital literacy, conflict resolution, and responsible AI.

As producer and host of 400 educational radio programs across the U.S., Dr. Dayani has promoted acculturation, cultural assets, and mental health resources. Her work earned her the Obama Award for Professional Excellence in Human Rights Advocacy and Social and Economic Development. Through her organization Lead 2 Empower, she provides executive training in social impact initiatives, intercultural leadership, and adaptive business negotiation, focusing on gender equity, productivity, and emotional resilience in AI-driven environments.

Dr. Dayani's eight-year tenure on PBS's Radio and TV community advisory board underscores her commitment to diverse perspectives and intercultural programming. Her two-decade career spans guiding stakeholders—from grassroots NGOs to Fortune 500 companies, the United Nations, and academic institutions—through transformative change and technology governance. She holds a master's in Instructional Design & Media from Columbia University and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Northcentral University, continuing her dedication to teaching, mentorship, and social change.

Turan Sert

Turan Sert

Turan Sert has been active in the finance and technology space for over two decades. 

His previous business experience includes audit (Arthur Andersen), investment banking (Garanti Bank), management consulting (Booz Allen), investment management (Fiba Holding), and operations (Ozyegin University) as well as entrepreneurship in a technology startup. 

He has been focusing on blockchain space over the last eight years and authored three books; 'Sorularla Blockchain (Questions on Blockchain)' in 2019, ‘Sorularla DeFi - Merkeziyetsiz Finans (Questions on DeFi- Decentralized Finance)’ in 2022, and lastly ‘Sorularla Web3 (Questions on Web3)’ in 2025. He is currently an advisory board member at BlockchainIST Center. 

He holds a BA degree in management from Bogazici University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

 

 

Tolga Vahap Kotan

Tolga Vahap Kotan

Mr. Kotan has 29 years of experience in investment banking and asset management, holding several top executive roles. He served as Executive Vice President of Finansinvest Istanbul, leading the Research, Investment Advisory, and Portfolio Management departments. Previously, he was CEO of Finans Asset Management, responsible for developing and implementing the organization's strategy. From 2006 to 2011, he was Chief Investment Officer and Senior Portfolio Manager at Finans Asset Management, following his role as an equity analyst at Finansinvest and Citicorp Securities.

In 2011, Forbes recognized him as one of Turkey's two best fund managers for his strong and sustainable performance. Mr. Kotan graduated with high honors from Bogazici University in 1995 with a B.S. in Business Administration and completed an MBA at the University of Ottawa in 1996 on a full scholarship. He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2008.
